I completed two thesis projects during my time at the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism:
- The first is a reported narrative, published in the J-School's magazine Brink, about West Nile virus and how a de-funding from the federal government in addition to our changing climate spells disaster. See the PDF version here. A version of this piece was also published on TheAtlantic.com and Mother Jones.
- The second project is an in-depth multimedia project that looks at why we do such a poor job of treating youth in America with substance abuse problems. Only 10 percent of youth that need treatment get it. My project examined the policies in place that have shaped that number, how addiction affects youth on a chemical level, the stigma attached to youth addiction, and will follow a handful of young people on their journeys trying to get clean. Check it out here.
